You’re probably not the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. But neither are you a ten year old kid with a lemonade stand. (Okay, maybe you do have a lemonade stand, but I’ll stick with my initial assumption). Chances are, you’re somewhere in between and have gotten this far because you continue to be interested in developing an Internet presence for your message. This page is intended to help you determine what kind of presence that might be.
To keep things simple, let’s divvy it up into three categories.
Perhaps you’re a small business owner and all you need is a simple business card or brochure type site wherein all you need to do is say, “Hey! Here I am, here’s what I do, and how you can contact me.
Or could it be that you’re an artist or writer and in addition to the aforementioned concept you’d also like to showcase your portfolio and explain how or where your work can be acquired. You might also like to include your biography, a certain set of particulars, along with an “Artist’s Statement” explaining why you do what you do.
The next logical step in this progression would be a site within which you also wish to make your work available to others. The current term for this is an “e-commerce site”. It can be done with straight forward hand-built pages containing links to a PayPal account; and I suggest this if your product line is smallish in size and doesn’t vary all that often. We could even request prospective buyers to simply call or write to you in order to make that purchase. On the other hand, we can always install your own shopping cart on the site to ease our collective management burden if your line is much more extensive.
Many web developers charge for their services based on a combination of page count and so many dollars per hour. I don’t, because often times logic dictates a new page.
