This journey (the youngest of the three) began in the fall of 2004 when I determined that an Internet presence was needed for my fledging miniature structures business. I knew that I had to be in full control of it from the very start. Thing was, I was totally clueless with regard to how to make it happen - I could spell “computer”, but not much more. Fate intervened and I discovered a guy over in Fryeburg who was willing to get me launched and off we went. In the beginning it was not pretty; and but eventually evolved into a somewhat better site, albeit a stuffed shirt; and there have been other iterations as well. I think you’re reading number eight right now.
I will readily admit that I’m not a big fan of overly sophisticated sites and don’t want to be. Nor can I stand flashy whiz bang twirly whirlies on web pages. And I abhor sites that take more than five seconds to catch my fancy and create an intuitive sense of how to navigate around the place. I also like them when they’re easy on the eye and tell a story. And with that in mind, I began developing a handful of other sites for various friends, family members, and other folks I’m connected with. Here are some of them:
Of the nine sites shown, some are provided for free and some for barter; a few represent an ongoing professional relationship that provides some income; and for two, I simply got them launched and then taught the owner/s how to do everything on their own. The approach taken all depended upon what was deemed the most practical for their particular set of circumstances; and that choice was theirs to make.
I’m especially proud of the recognition the Maine Woodturners site earned in 2007. It certainly validated the effort, but it also introduced me to the concept of “what’s next?”.
So... Here’s what’s next, and it’s based on the simple principle that I enjoy designing, building, and maintaining web sites - and want to do more. So I’m hanging this shingle out and making myself available to all who are interested. If you’d like to explore having me do a site with you (under any of the scenarios noted above - except for maybe that free one) and if your preferences for the site include concepts such as: appealing to the eye; easy to navigate; and generates interest in your endeavor - then please pick up the phone and let’s talk about it.
